FAQs

1. How many events are there on the tour?  The 2010 tour will have 4 events;
   1. The Sorted Surf Festival – Boscombe Reef.  March 20-21
   2. The Wedge Air Jam – Tolcarne, Newquay.  June (date tbc)
   3. The Greenaway Pro – Porthmeor, St Ives.  September (date tbc)
   4. The AutoSleepers Nationals – Porthtowan.  September/October (date tbc)
2. Do all the events count towards the British Open Championship?  If you qualify to compete in the British Nationals you can accrue points towards the Open British Championship at all 4 events.  The first 3 events are worth 500 points to the winner, and the Nationals are a 1,000 point IBA style ‘Grand Slam’ event.
3. What is the prize for the Open Champion?  This will consist of entry to a Grand-slam IBA event (Pipe, Confital, Sintra etc) plus a £500 contribution towards travel expenses.
4. Are there individual prizes for each contest?  Each event will have its own prize packages for the winners; however, as one of our aims is to get British riders back on the international competition scene, the BBC will be awarding an additional sponsorship prize to the Open Winner.
5. Can I still compete if I don’t hold a British passport?  As it currently stands, anyone can enter the non grand-slam events; but as these events ultimately help determine National representation you can only accrue points towards the Championship if you qualify to represent Britain internationally.
6. So what if a non-British competitor places in an event?   If a non qualifying competitor places in a competition, their points will be expunged from the records. Non-qualifying competitors can still win individual event prizes though.
7. Where can I see how many points are awarded for each place?  There is a table elsewhere on the BBC website.  This is in accordance with the IBA scoring system.
8. Will there be different divisions at all the events?  The tour decides only the Open Champion.  All the age and sub divisions will be decided at the Nationals event as usual.
9. Will there be future tour events in my area?  If the tour works well and we have the financial backing, we will seek to expand into wider geographic areas in 2011.
10. What if I can’t make a particular event or one gets cancelled?  If a competition does not take place the BBC will endeavour to provide a replacement.  If this is not possible the BBC reserves the right to decide the champion on the basis of the events that have taken place.  It is up to each rider to ensure that they compete in as many events as possible to maximise their chances of winning. Everyone starts with a level playing field.
11. Do I have to be a member of the BBC or BSA to compete?  We encourage all competitors to join the BBC or BSA.  Events run exclusively by the BBC require either full BBC or BSA membership, or temporary BBC competitor membership.  The Open Champion and any other competitor appointed to represent the UK may be required to purchase full BSA membership prior to representing the UK internationally.
