Britain’s best bodyboarders will descend upon Tolcarne Beach on the weekend of July 2/3 to do battle in The Bodyboard-Depot Wedge Air Show, the second event on the British Bodyboard Club (BBC) UK tour and a highlight in every sense of the word.

For the first time ever on the BBC tour and following on from the global success of the International Bodyboard Association (IBA) world tour, bodyboarders the world over will be able to watch the action as it unfolds as the event will be broadcast on a live webcast – to be shown on www.tiger24.com.

Bodyboarders love Tolcarne Beach for the wedgy waves which rebound off the cliff and offer excellent sections for boosting huge aerial maneuvers, just yards from the beach. The event is the second of the 2011 BBC tour, which was won last year by Porthtowan local Alex Winkworth.

British Senior Champ and director of The Bodyboard-Depot Rob Barber said the event is always a crowd pleaser: “The wedge comp is the highlight of the year and always the most visually entertaining … you have a steep speedy wave bowling into a take-off zone which can enable riders to boost high off the lip of the wave and pull a variety of tricks.

“All the riders love the wedge and the crowd does too as it happens so close to shore … this year the tour is hotting up and the riders will be looking to put on a show to get those points up for grabs.”

The contest is sponsored by Newquay’s newest bodyboard specialist shop The Bodyboard-Depot, (www.bodyboard-depot.com, www.facebook.com/bodyboarddepot) in conjunction with Agent Eighteen wetsuits. Also backing the event are ThreeSixty bodyboard magazine, Newquay Activity Centre, Kahuna Resturant and St Austell Brewery.
