BBC Contests, AGM and Training for 2013
With 2012 being such a difficult year for the Club and a major change made to the calendar halfway through the year we’ve had a quick look at what’s coming up. Here’s what we hope will happen.
Learning from the 2012 season and our big brother’s at the IBA we’re going to try extended contest windows and take advantage of the long evenings. It’s been pointed out that we all surf after work, why not compete? If it makes it run in good conditions we’re willing to try.
Portrush – March 30/31st (no extended window due to the event being run by another organiser). Entries are available online at http://www.causewaycoastsurffestival.com/ a great chance to compete with the best Irish surfers and enjoy a great weekend of surf and Irish craic.
2012 Nationals Completion – April – Portreath
Tolcarne Wedge – June 22 – 29 and back up date July 6 – 14th
Mawgan Porth Encounter – Whilst this is a great wave for bodyboarding the venue doesn’t meet all the needs of a contest so the event is sadly dropped.
Welsh Showdown – We have been unable to find a venue that meets all the requirements for a competition in Wales so the Welsh Showdown has for now been taken off the calendar. If you know a venue that is consistent, good for bodyboarding, breaks for at least 3 hours of tide and is accessible for competitors and judges please let us know.
Portreath – August 19 – 25 and back up date – September 2 – 8th
Nationals (Porthtowan) – September 14/15 and back up date 28/29. Due to the number of entries for this event we need to run it over a weekend and not an extended window.
Porthleven – we hope to make this a winter fixture for 2013/14 but it yet to be confirmed.
